Teaching using Special Collections

DSC00112

A workshop taking place

Material from our Special Collections can be used as part of a seminar or workshop. It can be very rewarding for academics and students alike to be able to handle original material, as well as introducing students to a range of primary sources and giving them the skills and confidence to be able to access and use archival collections.

Our teaching facilities include a group study room which can accommodate up to 12 people, and space for larger groups in the Research Commons.

You will find case studies of workshops that already use Special Collections material on our blog.

Career in Special Collections?

Are you interested in a career in Special Collections librarianship, or similar work? If you’re a current Brunel student or a Brunel graduate then come to our Careers Uncovered event on 30th October.

Careers Uncovered: libraries, museums and archives will feature a range of people who work in these fields, many of them at Brunel. It’s a great opportunity to get some top tips for your career and ask questions.

There will be several people from the library there, including Katie Flanagan (Special Collections Librarian), Georgina Parsons (Systems Librarian), Monique Ritchie (Research Librarian & Copyright Officer) and Sarah Wolfenden (Subject Liaison Librarian). There will also be staff from the University Archives and Arts Centre, plus an external museum.

You’ll find further details on the Placement and Careers Centre webpages.

Closure – 10th-20th October 2013

Special Collections will be closed between 10th and 20th October 2013, due to staff holidays. Please send any enquiries to special.collections@brunel.ac.uk, and we will respond to you as soon as possible from 21st October onwards.
